Job and training

At Blindes Arbejde, we believe that everyone has something to contribute and should have the opportunity to be part of a working community. It is about finding the right balance between the individual's skills, work intensity, and tasks.

The brush binder in a black hoodie and apron binds black hair onto a curved wooden handle using a machine with steel wire. Behind him, two colleagues are working at their tables in the workshop.

We collaborate with municipalities, job centers, and organizations working with employment for blind and visually impaired people. This includes, among others, the Institute for Blind and Visually Impaired People, vision centers, communication centers, consultants from the Danish Association of the Blind, and providers of assistive devices.

Job training and assessment of work capacity

A program at Blindes Arbejde is based on the individual and is tailored individually, with a focus on skills, work capacity, and necessary considerations in the workplace.

The programs are carried out under the Act on Active Labour Market Policy and can take place in crafts and retail, as well as at our warehouse in Copenhagen.

There are always places for 1-2 people in resource-based programs or internships at each of our local branches, and 6-8 people in Copenhagen.

We prioritize thorough training and personal attention. Therefore, we have fewer people in programs at a time, so there is time for the individual and the opportunity to arrange a good and thorough program.

Training in crafts and retail

At Blindes Arbejde, we offer training in both crafts and retail. In the crafts, we provide training in, among others, brush binding, broom making, and chair weaving.

The training is based on practical learning and is adapted to the individual's prerequisites, working hours, and needs.

Brush Binding

The training in brush binding follows a systematic program with a basic module and a main module. The process concludes with an internal journeyman's test, which is assessed by our education and quality manager as well as the director.

The test covers working techniques, quality assessment and self-inspection, knowledge of materials, as well as work intensity.

The training is estimated at 480 hours. Depending on, among other things, the weekly working hours, the training period can vary from approximately 13 to 52 weeks.

Chair Weaving

The training in chair weaving gives the employee skills in various weaving techniques, including envelope weaving, double weaving, and more advanced weaving types.

The training is estimated at a minimum of 300 hours with a primary focus on technique. It also includes course days with an external instructor.

Once the employee has gone through the various techniques and types of chair weaving, the training concludes with an internal journeyman's test.

Support throughout the process

Our social worker handles contact with municipalities and job centers in connection with agreements and follow-up on processes and sheltered employment.

Together with the individual employee and their immediate manager, the social worker also helps clarify the need for assistive devices and other compensatory measures that can support the work.

Employment and jobs with us

Blindes Arbejde offers various employment opportunities and is approved to provide services under the Social Services Act, as listed on the Service Portal.

We collaborate with municipal departments responsible for adult and disability services, job centers, and other stakeholders on, among other things, job assessment, resource development, and employment.

The City of Copenhagen is the authority responsible for the approval and supervision of our units and services under the Social Services Act.

Different ways to get a job with us

There are several ways to become part of Blindes Arbejde. Which type of employment is right for you depends on several factors, including your situation, your skills, and any approvals from the municipality.

Sheltered employment

If you receive early retirement pension and would like to join our workplace, it may be possible to obtain approval for sheltered employment through your municipality.

As a general rule, you do not need to have experience or professional skills in crafts, retail, service, warehousing, or any of our other areas of work. The most important things are interest and a desire to learn.

Our social worker can advise you on the criteria and options. The interview about employment is held with the relevant manager and the social worker.

Light-duty job or job with wage subsidy

If you receive early retirement pension and have professional skills or experience in one of our areas of work, it may be possible to be hired for a light-duty job.

A light-duty job can be established if we have a relevant job opening in an area where your skills can be put to use. The interview about potential employment is held with the relevant manager and the social worker.

Flexible Work

If you have been granted a flexible work arrangement and are interested in learning a trade or using your existing skills in a new way, there may be an opportunity for a flexible work position with us.

Together with you and your municipality, we will find the right balance between working hours, work intensity, tasks, and any necessary accommodations.

A flexible work position may begin with a short or long trial period to provide training and clarify matters such as working hours, work intensity, and any necessary accommodations.

We can offer flexible work positions in a variety of work areas. If we do not have the right match for you, we will do our best to point you toward relevant opportunities elsewhere.

If a trial period may lead to a job with us, you should send or deliver a short application and a CV to our director.

Part-time and Full-time Positions

When we have part-time or full-time vacancies, we advertise them on relevant platforms.

Employment in flexible work positions, as well as part-time and full-time positions, is agreed with the director and the immediate manager. For advertised positions, interviews are conducted with a recruitment committee.

If you need assistive devices or other accommodations in connection with the work, our social worker will assist you with the application.

A workplace community with room for diversity

Our purpose is to create jobs for blind and severely visually impaired people and give each individual the opportunity to use their skills in a meaningful workplace community.

At the same time, we want a diverse workforce with room for diversity in areas such as age, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, and disability.

What all our workplaces have in common is that we look at each individual's skills and find the tasks and conditions where they can be best utilized.
